Children’s Book Reviews by Children

To celebrate Independent Bookshop Week (20-27th June) Books Up North is excited to announce that soon it will be launching a new page featuring Kids Reviews.

Whilst you are reading this a wonderful panel of avid young readers and writers  are  conscientiously reviewing lots of exciting new books that are waiting in the wings to be released into the world this Summer and beyond.

You might think a book review blog is old hat, but we noticed that most children’s book reviews are written by parents and teachers or librarians (aka grown-ups)! This blog is unique because the reviewers will be the intended audience –  children and young adults. So anyone seeking an honest review about a book, to see if it might appeal to their grandchild, class, son or daughter, can choose confidently, armed with the opinions of this refreshingly youthful but expert panel of enthusiastic readers.

The aim is for all the new titles being published in the UK to be featured on this blog, so this is a call out for all children’s publishers to get in touch if you would like your books reviewing.

We would also like the panel of reviewers to be as diverse as possible. We are passionate about getting children reading and writing and sharing their opinions and discussing books and their themes, so if you are aged between 3-17 years and enjoy reading or listening to stories be read to you, then please contact us and apply to join  our reading party!

Because we support independent bookshops at the end of each review we will be encouraging you to #shoplocal  by helping you to locate your nearest indie bookshop, should you like the sound of the book and decide you would like to purchase a copy. Click Here

You won’t need persuading  that indie bookshops are unique, vital to your community and refuges for readers to browse and enjoy making new discoveries on the shelves. Please order online from your local indie bookshop,  if you can’t visit it  in person.

We look forward to celebrating the best of children’s publishing with you very soon.
