Kid’s Book Review: Fight Back

Kid’s Book Review: Fight Back

About the Book and Author

This is an epic book, full of action and adventure, but also personal growth. The main character is a Muslim girl called Aaliyah. When there is a bombing incident at her first concert, Aaliyah’s feelings threaten to bubble and explode. Can she sort out the bullies, from mean older brothers to horrible head teachers, and can she fight back?

Fight Back inspires young readers to find their own voice and to have the courage to be true to themselves and to speak out.

Book Review

One of the best things to read about was Aaliyah's journey

Fight Back was a real page-turner, I couldn’t stop reading! One of the best things to read about was Aaliyah’s journey. She went from an angry, troubled thirteen-year-old girl to a mature and confident young lady. She was a strong role model, empowering both girl power and her religion. I learnt about how challenging her life could be and how she dealt with it; instead of backing down and submitting to the hate, she rose to the task and showed that anyone can be whoever they like and wear what they like.

The book was also funny, and had some cute moments! As well as being strong, Aaliyah was a teenager so her online persona was referenced frequently, which added another perspective of the characters, one which was very helpful. Fight Back also gave a strong message about the use of a device and how to protect yourself online, from whoever it may be. I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it for definite!
