Kid’s Book Review: Freeze

Kid’s Book Review: Freeze

About the Book and Author / Illustrator

As the nights draw in so enters the season for spooky stories. Chris Priestley is an expert at writing and illustrations those!

Frozen is a story aimed at readers aged 8 – 11 years who like a chilling page-turner. This fantastic introduction to the horror genre is published by Barrington Stoke so it is shorter than most stories for this age group and accessible to dyslexic readers because it is printed on yellow paper stock.

When Maya and her classmates are asked to write a creepy story with a winter theme, they come up with some brilliant ideas. Rising floodwaters uncover long-buried bodies and ghostly children take to the ice on a frozen canal. But as each of the stories is read out in class, Maya grows more and more uncomfortable. She features in each of her friends’ creepy tales and they start to feel a little too real. Finally, when a mysterious new girl stands up to read the last story of the day, the light outside dims and it starts to snow. The classroom starts to freeze but everyone is trapped. Can Maya stop the story before the nightmare comes true?

Book Review

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes spooky stories

This book was so amazing I nearly peed my pants! My favourite story was the one about the snowmen because it was so creepy. I was shocked when it was revealed about the new girl. My favourite illustration was on p.86 Jack Frost looked so cold.

I loved the characters they were so brave and Maya was always getting them into trouble. Winter is my favourite season I love going sledging and I liked that all the stories were about winter. I liked how their nightmares came true and it ended where it started.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes spooky stories.
