Jesse's Book Review

I love ninjas so much I even had a ninja birthday party!

It was about a magical land called Ulfrika. It made my imagination thing about this other world and what it would be like to be there and to fight bad people.

There were lots of twists and turns in this story. My favourite part was how long Jarell took to learn to do ninja-type moves to defeat the baddy. He had to do it with his eyes closed and learn how to use his senses to defend himself. That was so cool.

Jarell made me think about ninjas which made me love him and his adventures because I love ninjas so much I even had a ninja birthday party!

There were only a few illustrations which made the book  feel quite grown up. The pictures were in black and white and helped me to guess what the world and people were like.

I would recommend it to readers aged  7-10 years.

Mum says: This was number three in the series so it was a little tricky picking up without knowing all that had happened in the previous books. Having said that it was a really refreshing book, set in a unique world and with a voice that felt fresh and new. The adventures and sense of quest kept Jesse hooked despite not knowing the back story and he read most of it himself in bed.
