About the Book and Author
Hotel Magnifique is about Jani, a seventeen year old girl who has to care of her younger sister Zosa as their parents are dead. They live in a poor orphanage, dreaming of adventure.
This book follows Jani as she and her sister manage to get jobs in the mysterious and luxurious Hotel Magnifique. A hotel enchanted by the powerful Maître d’hotel.
They are quickly astounded by the wonderful magic of the hotel, but darker themes are explored as Jani realises that not everything is as it seems…
Thank you to Pushkin Press for sending us a proof of Emily J. Taylor’s first book for Becky to read and review. We hope she is spurred on to write another one soon!

Book Review
Jani is a powerful female lead and helps make the story very vivid
Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor is a brilliant book, a real page-turner. It explores various themes, such as friendship, magic and mystery. It is a somewhat dark book, so I would recommend it to 8 – 12 year olds.
Hotel Magnifique has various powerful messages, such as how easy it is to be influenced by others and how easy it is to turn a blind eye. Jani is a powerful female lead and helps make the story very vivid. This book is a brilliant debut novel by Taylor and is perfect for fantasy fans and fans of The Night Circus.
Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor is imaginative and magical and I would highly recommend it.
