Book Review

The charming illustrations and bright colours do make it an engaging book for children

Ilaria was immediately drawn to this book and has requested to read it a few times already, including taking it to bed to read. The charming illustrations and bright colours do make it an engaging book for children.

The topic is a lovely one, exploring all the different ways people can be kind. I was really impressed how many ways the author came up with and how many specific examples she generated for each type of kindness.

Ilaria shared that she liked the character of Maisy the best and she liked the pages where Maisy made Cyril a birthday card and Charley gives Cyril a birthday cake.

The use of six animal characters across the book worked well as it developed a through story that linked each kindness topic. The only criticism I would make is  exploring five ways to be kind with 6-8 pages for each makes for quite a long book!

For a 3 year old (and I would suspect even for slightly older children) it was difficult to stay focussed for the whole book at times, even though I did not read all of the text due to this. But overall a really lovely book with beautiful illustrations and a lovely theme.
