About the Book and Author
This happy story celebrates the joy of unexpected friendships. It is a short chapter book but has glossy coloured illustrations on both pages making it a perfect stepping stone for developing readers who are moving on from picture books and emerging as independent readers. The writer is Candy Gourlay, the illustrator is Carles Ballesteros and it is published by Little Tiger Press.
Mike and his dog Bowow are relaxing in the Chocolate Hills when the ground starts to tremble and the next moment a gaping hole appears. Before Mike can stop him, Bowow jumps into the hole. Then a note floats up…
Just fall up.
There’s no time to wonder what it means – Mike jumps in and falls into the most topsy-turvy of adventures.
The title made me laugh...how can you fall up?!
I really loved the bright colours and the fun pictures on the front cover and in the book (see some examples below).

I liked reading about Mike’s adventure with his dog and how he made new friends because I like new exciting adventures and making friends.
My favourite part was when they played the birthday games. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen at the end, so I wanted to keep reading to find out.
I enjoy reading chapter books so it was good for me that this book had chapters in it.
