Kid’s Book Review: Super Swifts

Kid’s Book Review: Super Swifts

About the Book and Author and Illustrator

This picture book tells the story of the astonishing little birds who fly and fly and fly extraordinary distances.

The collage-style illustrations by Clover Robin are simply beautiful; each double page spread is a work of art. We love this non-fiction title published by Walker Books as part of its nature series with wildlife producer and presenter Justin Anderson.

Swifts may be small and brown, but they are the champions of the bird world – flying faster, higher and for longer than any other bird!

Producer, director Justin Anderson has 18 years of documentary experience and has made programmes for the BBC, Discovery Channel and National Geographic television. He was a sequence director and assistant producer on the Emmy Award winning first Planet Earth series where he achieved notoriety for spending 2 months working in a huge pile of bat guano Read more about Justin on his author page on Walker Books.

Clover Robin creates illustrative collages made from hand painted, found and recycled papers.  Clover graduated from Central Saint Martins with a Masters in textile design in 2009 and has gone on to create artwork commissioned for packaging, fashion and publishing.

Book Review

I didn’t know that swifts can stay in the air for four years without even landing

Laurence says: I didn’t know that swifts can stay in the air for four years without even landing. They fly and sleep at the same time and drink raindrops falling out of the sky.

I liked the picture of swifts at a ‘screaming party’. My younger sister  liked the picture of the chicks in their nest.

Mum says: This is a fascinating book that appealed to everyone in our family, including the grown ups. Having watched swifts flying by it was great to learn so much about their amazing journey. We loved the full page illustrations in this book.
