Kid’s Book Review: The Book Cat

Kid’s Book Review: The Book Cat

About the Book and Author

This is a (possibly) true story of Morgan, Book Cat extraordinaire and mastermind of the great kitten evacuation during London’s second Blitz who took up residence in a publisher’s (Faber) offices. It is a charming story told by Polly Faber in a hardback edition that contains lots of detailed illustrations by Clara Vulliamy that our young reviewer really appreciated.

Who else could the publisher of this future classic tale be but Faber & Faber?!

The Book Cat
Polly Faber author

Polly Faber is a cat-loving author who has written a number of books for children and loves the colour yellow!

Clara Vulliamy has been drawing since forever – there’s never been anything else she wanted to do. Just possibly it runs in the family as she is the daughter of Shirley Hughes CBE.  Clara has already illustrated a considerable number of books as you will discover on her website.

Book Review

This is a book I am definitely going to read again!

This book was so funny because a cat eating a banana… that just isn’t possible! The beginning was sad about the war and his family. The illustrations made me laugh because they were so detailed and they didn’t miss a single funny bit of the story. My favourite illustration was on page 49 because it was really cute and the way they captured all the animals dancing was great.

My favourite chapter was cat burglar because it was funny when Morgan stole a banana. Morgan was a hero to help all those poor kittens. He did great things with his 9 lives. It was a clever idea and the cats were so cute. It was interesting because it had links to the war and how authors write their stories.

I love the plot because it’s exciting and I really loved the characters and I wondered what would happen. I bet those authors will do much better stories. This is a book I am definitely going to read again!
