Kid’s Book Review: The Girl and the Mermaid

About the Book, Author and Illustrator

Alina and her granny live in a lighthouse by the sea: a home filled with the warmth of Granny’s magical stories. But Alina is worried. Granny’s memories and stories are starting to fade away, and she doesn’t know how to bring them back.

Then one day, she meets a mermaid on the rocks near the lighthouse – and she’s swept into a magical deep-sea adventure that will change everything.

Book Review

The rhyming created a lovely flow throughout the writing and inspired Gracie to add her own ending

Gracie loves stories about mermaids and magic so this was a winner from the start!

The cover and pages throughout are beautifully illustrated and visually tell the story.

The language is wonderfully descriptive and although she didn’t understand all of the words, the pictures supported her understanding and it was a great introduction to some new vocabulary.

Her favourite part was when the mermaid gave the girl the stories and then the girl gave them to her grandma as a gift.

She liked all of the characters because they were so kind. The rhyming created a lovely flow throughout the writing and inspired Gracie to add her own ending.
