Kid’s Book Review: Theodora Hendrix and the Curious Case of the Cursed Beetle

Kid’s Book Review: Theodora Hendrix and the Curious Case of the Cursed Beetle

About the Book and Author

This is the second spooky title in the Theodroa Hendrix series by Jordan Kopy, published by Walker Books. It contains atmospheric black and white illustrations by Chris Jevons that add to the creepy tale.

After facing down an evil hag, a thieving skele-crow and an army of the undead, ten-year-old Theodora Hendrix is certain she can handle anything – that is, until she meets the unpleasant Inspector Shelley and her even more unpleasant pet rat. Shelley and Ratsputin have come to spy on the MLM, and are determined to make trouble at every turn. Then Theodora makes a discovery of her own: a cursed beetle. She needs to destroy it without attracting the attention of the inspector – and fast. The stakes couldn’t be higher: if Theodora fails, her beloved monster family will rot in the dankest, darkest prisons of Transylvania…

Book Review

This is a really fun adventure mystery book with fantastic supernatural characters

I saved this book to read at Halloween because Mum and I always share a spooky book then and this book was perfect. We loved it.
I was hooked from the start, I like that the book invites you into the adventure as though you are part of the story.

The descriptions of Theodora and her home were really fun and I really want some Zombie Bunny slippers they sound awesome.
The illustrations are great and the dark page ones especially felt creepy, especially the one when the beetle is released.

My favourite characters were Theodora who is so brave and puts her family first and the cubs who make me laugh. My Mum’s favourite was Wilhelmina, especially when she deals with the PTA.
This is a really fun adventure mystery book with fantastic supernatural characters.

I happily read it aloud and I think it would suit anyone from around 8, or younger if they are being read to.
I cannot wait for more adventures with Theodora.
