Kid’s Book Review: There’s No Such Thing as Mermaids

About the Book

Mermaid fans will love this sparkly-covered picture book where you are invited to find the mermaids on each double page spread. The fun rhyming text is written by Lucy Rowland and illustrated by Katy Halford.

When a little girl is told there’s no such thing as mermaids, she doesn’t believe it for a second. Mermaids MUST exist – after all, they’re always in books and films!
But if she has any chance of proving that mermaids are real, the little girl needs proof! So starts a wonderful journey. And DO mermaids exist?
There’s only one way to find out…

Lucy Rowland is a Children’s Speech and Language Therapist who has a real passion for language and lots of experience working with young children, so she was thrilled when she finally made the leap into picture book writing.

Katy Halford is a children’s book illustrator who studied Illustration at Loughborough University and went on to study teaching at Birmingham University.
She was an art teacher for many years until one day she had a light bulb moment and decided to focus on her true passion, children’s book illustration. Shortly after this she signed with her agent in 2017 and since then has drawn lots of pictures for books (picture books, young fiction and non fiction).

Book Review

I loved it! It's the best book ever!

The girl couldn’t spot mermaids but you have to look really closely. I loved to spot the mermaid on the all the pages.

My favourite part was when the mermaid showed herself to the girl and didn’t hide anymore. It made me feel so happy!

The pictures show us all the things that are happening in the story. The colours in the drawings are bright and fun to look at. My favourite illustration was where the mermaid showed the girl her pearl.

All mums and children and everyone will like this story.
