Stephanie Stansbie has been a children’s books editor since the 90s and an author since the noughties. She adores editing and writing in equal measure and has always worked on illustrated books, where the art is as important as the word. The books she has written have been translated into over 15 different languages.

Hazel Quintanilla has been drawing since she was a little girl, when she used to carry a pencil and a small notebook around in a cute furry bear face bag bought for her by her mum. She also carried cheese strings in it! She really loves dogs and illustrating with bold colours and cute shapes.

Book Review

My favourite page was when she scribbled over her pet names because she doesn’t like them!

Maryam says: I like Ruby because she is funny and she can do anything she wants. My favourite page was when she scribbled over her pet names because she doesn’t like them.

Mum says: We really loved this book as Ruby is very similar to Maryam in some regards. Ruby is fiesty and knows her mind and has unlimited energy. Her parents’ bafflement really comes through the illustrations. A great book to show girls they are strong and can do anything they set their minds to.
