About the Book and Author
This picture book is a beautifully illustrated and tells the story of two friends who help to clean up the beach near their home in Japan to help the sea turtles who want to lay their eggs in the clean sand.
Written by Saviour Pioretta and with double-spread artwork by Nilesh Mistry this book is one that younger children will enjoy listening to and older independent readers such as Yusuf can enjoy reading themselves too. We recommend the story for 6- 8 year olds but younger children will our over the details in the pictures too.
This story has an environmental message and can lead to conversations about the importance of looking after the eco-system and protecting endangered species so it would be good for topics in primary schools. It is published by indie publisher Otter Barry Books.
I liked the bit where the turtles came
This book is good one to read. I liked the bit where the turtles came. I really liked the pictures there and the little baby turtles were good because they were cute.
I learnt some things from this book too:
I learned a bit about Japanese culture. The picture helped me to understand how they eat in Japan.
I learned that turtles live in Japan.
I was sad to know that all 7 species of sea turtles are endangered.
The book also teaches us how to look after beaches.
