Producer of bespoke literary events
Sarah has experience of creating imaginative literary events at a diverse range of venues in Yorkshire. From the more obvious community arts centres and libraries, to stately homes, natural open spaces as well as schools and village halls.
She takes the view that no space is too big or too small or too remote if it is well planned. Sarah can support you to project manage an exhibition, mini-festival or series of workshops as well as a single author event.
She regularly arranges for authors to visit children in schools and post-Covid she has enjoyed being back in the classroom promoting reading for pleasure, leading reading interventions and re-stocking school libraries.
Sarah is keen to support libraries across the North to make their publicly accessible spaces more culturally diverse performance spaces. Most recently she supported Leeds Libraries by programming the children’s events that took place at Leeds Central Library for Leeds Lit Fest 2022.
For Libraries Week 2020 she was invited to create and present a Book Quiz for the Balbir Singh Dance Company to share as part of its education programme.
In addition to her excellent connections to artists and publishers she can share her PR knowledge with your marketing team to ensure that your literary event engages with the visitors you wish to attract. This may be of particular use if your venue is not widely known for hosting literary events but you are looking to diversify your offer to existing members or attract new visitors.
Books Up North is a bookseller who can supply the stock and manage the book signings for your guest writers such we did at Newby Hall and Gardens when we curated the Summer Exhibition and garden trail for Lauren Child in 2018.
If your venue or company is considering including a literary angle its future programme why not contact Books Up North to see if Sarah can help you to connect with artists you wish to invite? She might also have also some suggestions about other artists who might be available for your programme or have some ideas about which type of event would be suitable for your space.
Sarah will listen and support you to design and deliver your bespoke event.

We contacted Sarah to arrange an author visit for our small, rural primary school. Sarah was able to arrange a suitable author for our mixed age key stage two class, after asking a variety of questions about our school and our needs. Organisation was very thorough from initial contact, right through to the visit. The author that Sarah had recommended to us was perfect for what we wanted, the children were all engaged and were inspired by the visit. Being a small school wanting to offer exciting learning opportunities, we would not hesitate to use Sarah again
